Hello, I’m Mika, a Canadian currently living on the southern island of Kyushu, Japan.
In 2018, I made the big move from the metropolitan city of Vancouver to the rural countryside of Japan in Oita Prefecture. Fuelled by my desire to live in the country that had captured my heart so many years ago, I took my design and illustration practice with me to start my new life in Japan. Since then, I’ve been learning Japanese, exploring the landscape and navigating the intricate Japanese culture (while stumbling along the way).
All pictures have been taken on a FujiFilm X-T20, and video on my iPhone 5.
Graphic Design, Web Design, and Illustration
While in Vancouver, I ran my own business providing graphic and web design services for a variety of clients for over 7 years. In 2017, I included illustration services to my practice, and have online shops featuring my working on society6.com and designbyhumans.com.
Since early 2019, I’ve been a contributing writer for Voyapon, visiting and writing articles of off-the-beaten path destinations in Japan. A full list of articles below:
For a glimpse of daily country life in Japan, I post photographs and videos on my Lost in Kyushu instagram account:
If you have any questions, would like to work together, or anything else, let’s talk! 👋
